Preparing your skin for the summer

As the summer approaches, everyone is thinking about enjoying the longer days, spending more time outdoors and going to the beach. This means that we spend more time being exposed to the sun’s rays. However, before increasing your exposure, you should prepare your skin.

How to prepare your skin for the summer.

Today we are going to tell you how you can protect and care for your skin, to get it ready for the summer:

  • Exfoliate your skin once or twice a week, both on your face and the rest of your body, to remove any impurities and aid skin renewal, which will improve the effectiveness of any treatments you apply afterwards. This will also help you get a more even, lasting tan.

  • Deep moisturisation is essential to keep your skin healthy and maintain its protective function. To do this, you can apply nourishing moisturising creams, almond oil, aloe vera, etc. and, of course, drink at least two litres of water a day.

  • Use sunscreen to protect your skin, preventing facial blemishes, dehydration, redness and sunburn. The trick is to include sunscreen in your daily routine, as you should use it in the winter as well as the summer. You should also use UV protection that is suitable for your skin type, and we recommend using one with an SPF of at least 30.

  • Gradual exposure to the sun allows your skin to adapt, adjusting its melanin levels. You can start with 10-15 minutes of exposure and gradually increase it. It is also important to avoid the hours when the sun’s rays are most harmful, i.e. between noon and 4pm.

  • Look after your diet, as this will help to protect your skin from the inside out, especially if you consume antioxidants that combat the harmful effects of UV radiation, such as premature skin ageing. We recommend eating foods like tomatoes, carrots, apricots and melons, which will also help you get a deeper and more even tan.

Food supplements like Keriba Duo, which are high in natural antioxidants – in this case from whole fresh pomegranates and olives – will help to protect you from the UV radiation in the sun’s rays, as they help to promote the regeneration of cells in the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin, as well as preventing the appearance of blemishes and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which tighten the skin and prevent the formation of wrinkles.
