Bacterial immunotherapy

A safe and personalised treatment that boosts the immune system to prevent and manage recurrent bacterial infections.

Information for healthcare professionals

Recurrent otitis, sinusitis or pharyngitis...what if there were a treatment that would stop them in their tracks?

What is bacterial immunotherapy?

Bacterial immunotherapy is indicated for patients with recurrent bacterial infections or patients who respond poorly to conventional antibiotic treatments. It is used for conditions such as:

  • Recurrent acute pharyngotonsillitis
  • Otitis media and/or serous
  • Adenoiditis
  • Sinusitis
  • Rhinitis
  • Intrinsic asthma
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

This treatment stimulates the production of antibodies (IgA, IgG and IgM) and activates a defensive cellular response by helper T lymphocytes and macrophages, creating a state of defence against causative microorganisms.

Treatments available

At Probelte Pharma we offer specialists a wide range of immunotherapy treatments, designed to be tailored to the needs of each patient and to ensure maximum efficacy and safety.

Subcutaneous route

Subcutaneous administration is performed through injections under the skin, enabling a controlled, effective release of the bacterial extracts. This method is suitable for patients who require closer medical monitoring and a strong immune response. It is usually performed in a clinical setting to ensure correct dosing.

Sublingual route

The sublingual route involves placing drops or tablets containing bacterial extracts under the tongue, allowing them to be absorbed directly through the oral mucosa. It is a convenient and safe method that the patient can carry out at home, helping to improve adherence to the treatment and reduce the need for frequent visits to the doctor.

Nasal route

Nasal administration applies the bacterial extracts through the mucosa of the nose and mouth. This boosts local immunity in the respiratory tract, which is especially useful for preventing recurrent upper respiratory tract infections.

Aerosol therapy

Aerosol therapy uses a nebuliser to disperse bacterial extracts in the form of inhalable particles that directly reach the airways. This route is indicated for patients with chronic respiratory problems, as it promotes direct local action in the bronchi and lungs.

3 years

of proven effectiveness in sublingual polybacterial vaccines, with sustained reductions in respiratory and urinary tract infections.

-68%

fewer recurrent urinary tract infections after one course of sublingual auto-vaccine treatment, decreasing from 3.73 to 0.98 episodes per year.

-79%

cases of infection, medical visits and hospitalisations, with a 60% reduction in annual healthcare costs.

Patient information

In this section you will find clear, easy-to-understand information about what bacterial immunotherapy is, how it works and the benefits it can provide for your health. Our goal is to help you to understand each step of your treatment and to give you the confidence to make decisions together with your specialist.

These are personalised therapeutic vaccines that contain bacterial lysates made using typed strains that are prevalent in the lesions of the disease being treated. They are prepared according to the medical specialist’s prescription.

ITUVAC is a bacterial vaccine used specifically to treat and prevent urinary tract infections.

It is a suspension of bacterial lysates obtained from bacteria that are present in the patient’s infection.

  • Simple auto-vaccine: only contains bacteria isolated from the patient.

  • Mixed auto-vaccine: combines the patient’s bacteria with others selected by the specialist.

It can be administered subcutaneously, sublingually, nasally or through aerosol therapy.

BVs and auto-vaccines act as immunomodulators, boosting both innate and acquired immunity. This improves the body’s ability to respond to infections, reduces recurrence and decreases the need for antibiotics.

  • Immune response against recurrent bacteria.
  • Reduces the use of antibiotics and bacterial resistance.

  • Improves the patient’s clinical condition.

  • Reduces school and work absenteeism.

  • Safe and harmless treatment: the bacteria are inactivated.

  • High tolerance: minimal undesirable effects, no severe reactions reported.

  • Compatible with other treatments.
